Beaches have always been my favourite. The beautiful and refreshing waves, the sand where one can spend their entire day pondering about anything. The sunset and the sunrise – the best time to be on the beach. Nothing gives me more happiness than these moments. It lifts up your soul and makes you feel alive. There is a positivity which you feel whenever you are near the waves and to get that feeling I always look forward to going to the beaches.

I had always seen the pictures of lighthouses on the beach and read about them in almost all the adventure books during my childhood. Hence, I was really excited to see this famous lighthouse beach in Kovalam, Kerala.
We made our way from Poovar to Kovalam in the autorickshaw, chatting away with the autowala bhaiya. It was a beautiful ride where he took us through small villages which were so clean and peaceful. The culture and lifestyle of the people in Kerala is indeed something which you don’t get to see in other parts of the country.

As we reached the footsteps of the lighthouse and I lift my head up to see the tall structure infront of me and the beautiful beach that it was surrounded by, I was indeed amazed. However, it was nothing like the books and the adventure tales. This was just another thing which had been turned into a tourist spot with lifts installed inside to reach the top. We decided to take the stairs nevertheless and when we reached the top, I swear on the almighty it was the most breathtaking view ever.

The breeze stroked my hair and the turquoise blue sea waves were hitting the rocks continuously. There were few people riding the motor boats and enjoying the sea waves. In the distant, there were ships returning to the shore and the sun was ready to submerge itself into the sea within a few hours. We stood there for a while enjoying the beautiful view and pondering about all the good things in life. After a while we had to snap out of the beautiful moment when few aunties started glaring at us because we were blocking the view to the best part of the beach. So we took our leave from the place so that others could equally enjoy the view.

We made our way downstairs and walked our way through the town towards the beautiful Lighthouse beach. The people around were having a great time with their families and friends, splashing water on each other and trying to plunge into the waves. There were little kids trying to build a castle and their parents spending some quality time while the kid was busy. It was a typical sight at the beach.

We sat there for a long while till the sun touched the horizon and disappeared completely marking the end of a beautiful day.
It was a beautiful day at a beautiful place and we headed back towards Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.
