It was the 5th day of our trip to South India when we finally reached the place we were most excited to see. The backwaters. It is something which makes the entire state of Kerala different from the rest of the country. It is the most beautiful part of Kerala.

And we were not even the least bit disappointed when the Autowala Bhaiya dropped us at the point in Poovar from where we had to get on a boat to explore the beautiful Mangrove forest that lay infront of our eyes. The lushful forest with the clean water all around, it was a treat to the eyes.

As we made our way through the beautiful Mangroves and the Coconut trees on the side, going deeper into the forest, we were listening to the songs of “When Chai Met Toast” and there couldn’t have been a perfect time to listen to their songs. The serenity of the place got to us even more.
The leaves brushing our faces and the little droplets from the oars of the boat falling on us once in a while, the air so fresh and the little breeze that was blowing – the nature was showing its true colors.
A little later we stopped at this place called the Golden Beach which was just a narrow line of sand with the gigantic Arabian sea on one side and the beautiful Neyyar river on the other. I had never seen something like that in my entire life. Breathtaking, it was. The ferocious waves ready to gulp you in on one side and the beautiful and calm river with the beautiful green forest on the other. The two sides of a coin, maybe?

On the way back from the Poovar Backwaters, the autowala bhaiya asked me ” How did you like the beautiful Poovar?” To which I just replied, “Thank you bhaiya for bringing us here. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. They say it right, Kerala is indeed God’s own country.” He smiled and carried on the journey towards the beautiful Kovalam beach.
